As of 2022, Japan boasts the lowest COVID-19 population mortality rate—a mere 0.02%— of all the G7 countries. This is an entire order of magnitude lower than the G7 average of 0.21%,1 an extraordinary feat of patience and understanding on the part of the Japanese people. But this extraordinary feat came at an extraordinary cost—one the women of Japan are paying.
