enjoi Japan Founder and CEO, Dr. Jackie F. Steele has been recognized as “one of the most Inspiring Japanese Entrepreneurs of 2021” by APAC Entrepreneur, an international media publication that shares stories, lessons learned and valuable ideas in the entrepreneurial space across the APAC region.
Dr. Steele is featured in the December issue of the publication, sharing her journey to starting enjoi Japan after seeing a gap in corporate Japan on diversity and inclusion benefiting business strategy and supporting organizational culture.
Dr. Steele says, “The end goal of enjoi’s ‘I’ is to see Diversity Equity & Innovation (DEI) drive measurable innovation for the bottom line and intersectional equity for people happiness. DEI business strategy is good for people, profits, and the planet when done with an evidence-based strategy, multi-stakeholder engagement, and when spearheaded by leaders who believe in genuine legacy and personal accountability, everyone wins.”
Japan can be a difficult market to operate in when it comes to championing change in the DEI space. A long-term under-investment in social equality and respect for diversity in public policy and toxic stereotypes about gender, race, sexual orientation, and disability go unchallenged within Japanese political circles. This directly affects corporate leaders and can blind them to opportunities for innovative change, which will have positive benefits not only on their bottom line but society too. Dr. Steele sees enjoi’s purpose is to challenge what has been the norm and open the eyes of corporate Japan’s leaders to the world of innovation opportunities, when DEI is combined with business strategy.
Acknowledging and understanding the challenges to incorporate DEI business strategy, Dr. Steele says, “Change must be curated gently to give people’s hearts and minds a chance to engage with new possibilities, to see the value it brings them individually and to their colleagues, to be inspired to action, and then to willingly support the change from within.”
enjoi’s upcoming DEI program aims to disrupt the DEI space to invest in men’s executive education. Wolfpack offers a confidential, brave space that empowers men in corporate leadership roles to deepen their understanding of DEI as a business strategy, EQ leadership, and global competitiveness.
